ThyssenKrupp Steel USA operates the newest and most technologically advanced carbon steel processing facilities in the world. They are proud of their facilities and recognize the educational and community benefit in familiarizing others with their operations.

Tours normally include a driving site tour of infrastructure logistical facilities and a walking tour of hot strip mill, initial process that produces coiled steel from carbon steel slabs.

Tuesday, 18 October events and activities

“The Status of Real-Time Optimization and Multivariable Predictive Control”
Keynote address by Charlie Cutler

In his keynote address, Charlie Cutler will discuss his observation of real-time optimization as a fading technology, the problems control engineers face with its use, his insights into the need for revitalizing the application, and making sure that it gets the right attention from management.

Joint A&T and I&S Awards Luncheon

The Industries and Sciences (I&S) and the Automation and Technology (A&T) Departments of ISA will recognize the efforts of ISA technical division volunteers and officers at the Joint A&T and I&S Awards Luncheon this year. Various awards will be presented to divisions and volunteers who have made outstanding contributions in industry. The Outstanding Division Award in both departments will also be recognized.

“The Present and Future Role of Automation (the Maturing of the Profession)
Keynote address by Béla Lipták

Béla Lipták’s presentation will include a description of the latest developments in industrial automation, covering sensors, valves, controllers, optimization of unit operations, safety, and displays. He will also provide his explanation of how the control and modeling techniques developed for industry are also applicable to build models for non-industrial processes.

Serving as the backbone of manufacturing, technicians help the world go round. They troubleshoot, optimize, maintain, and tune equipment that helps ensure a higher standard of living.
